Purchase Meeting and After-Party

Director’s Council members only

At the conclusion of the FOCUS season in the spring, one work or group of works from each exhibition is held for the annual Purchase Meeting. During this event, members of the Director's Council vote to determine which work will be recommended for acquisition by the Modern, thus contributing to the Museum's permanent collection and shaping its cultural footprint.

I Stand Corrected

Watch Jennifer Leitham perform and it's obvious the striking redhead is an original. When this world-famous jazz bassist takes center-stage, her entire body dances with the bass as her long, fiery hair whips and bobs to the blistering pace set by her fingers. She's a special talent made all the more unique because Jennifer Leitham began her life and career as John Leitham. I STAND CORRECTED charts Leitham's rise as a virtuoso of the upright bass and reveals how she risked everything with her decision to undergo sexual reassignment surgery.

Slow Art Day

The average person looks at a painting for 15 to 30 seconds, but on Slow Art Day, we urge visitors to join us for a series of guided discussions, each on single work of art. You may join any or all of these 30-minute conversations. We will look at signature works from the collection by artists such as Andy Warhol, Agnes Martin, Morris Louis, Anselm Kiefer, and others.
